The mistake most people make
The biggest mistake is pouring a large amount of vinegar directly into the washing machine again and again. Many people think more vinegar means better results, but that is not true.
Using too much vinegar too often can be unnecessary. It may also be hard on rubber seals and hoses in some machines over time. Whirlpool recommends using vinegar mainly for pre-treating laundry and rinsing items well before placing them in the washer.
Another common mistake is mixing vinegar with other cleaning products. Never mix vinegar with bleach. Whirlpool specifically warns not to use vinegar and bleach together.
The right way to use vinegar for towels
For towels that feel rough or smell musty, use vinegar as an occasional refresh, not every wash.
Add warm water to a basin or bucket, then add a small amount of white vinegar. Soak the towels for a short time, then rinse them well. After that, wash them normally with laundry detergent.
