I knew for months my husband was cheating with his secretary, but I stayed quiet—until I saw them leaving a prenatal ultrasound together
The whole world seemed to turn upside down on one random day at the local women’s clinic. I had gone there to collect some old medical records from Dr. Elias Grant, a childhood buddy who had previously attended to Daniel while we were trying to conceive. On my way through the lobby, I bumped into Daniel and Vanessa exiting an ultrasound room. Daniel became nervous, tripping over his words and making up the usual lies, but before I could respond, Dr. Grant walked up with a sealed lab report. He handed the envelope to Daniel, puzzled by what was happening.
Upon reading the sheet, Daniel’s expression turned to shock. Medical tests conducted years prior had revealed that he was sterile. There was absolutely no way that the baby Vanessa was carrying belonged to him. When I told her this, Vanessa appeared as if she was about to faint.
Later that day, Daniel came home livid, flinging the report onto the kitchen counter and accusing me of setting him up for public humiliation. When he yelled for a divorce, I did not fight back. It surprised him how calmly I took it, but within a couple of days he filed the paperwork, claiming the house and trying to remove me from the board of directors of Mercer Freight. At the same time, Vanessa flaunted her engagement ring around the office, expecting her luxurious life to begin.
Vanessa and Daniel made things very simple for my team because we found out that Vanessa had also slept with Julian Cross, the company’s VP of Procurement and Daniel’s best friend. In hotel bills and deleted corporate emails, we found out that she and Julian were overstating their contracts with vendors, funneling the extra money through offshore companies. They intended to blame me for all of it, expecting me to be just an innocent housewife who wouldn’t see through any of their plans.
