There was no epic confrontation; the whole situation was sorted out through the usual company procedures. Daniel called an emergency meeting of the board and tried to get rid of me. I let him speak first, and then our corporate lawyer passed around copies of the family trust agreement. The board was stunned into silence. Mercer Freight did not belong to Daniel at all; he was nothing but a paid employee of my father’s trust.
Our lawyer then calmly told the board that a formal internal audit had revealed extreme financial misconduct. No fancy graphics or film reels were involved; just forensic accounting documents explaining the fraud, plus copies of the prenatal paternity test that Vanessa had foolishly emailed Julian from her office address.
Daniel attempted to fight back, but the evidence spoke for itself. The board promptly voted to suspend Daniel and Julian pending a criminal investigation, while HR fired Vanessa right there on the spot.
